The Behavioral Science Program
The Behavioral Science program at Mid-America Christian University is designed to provide a broad-based education in the discipline, to instruct students in the scientific method, to integrate knowledge of the discipline with a Christian faith-based perspective, and to prepare students for success in graduate school, in the workplace, and in ministry settings. The curriculum includes the study of perception, learning, memory, concept formation, thinking, language, and problems solving; motivation and emotion; human development; personality and abnormal behavior; the influence of social contexts on the individual and families; and the fundamentals of counseling in professional and ministry settings.
Program Highlights:
- The focus of behavioral science is the study of human behavior (individual, group, interactions with the environment), conscious experience (learning, memory, motivation, emotions, thought), personality and abnormal behavior (psychopathology, mental health) and counseling (principles and procedures applicable in professional, business, and ministry settings).
- The field of behavioral science employs the scientific method and statistical inference and analysis to gather and assess data. Upon graduation from Mid-American Christian University, students will understand and appreciate the rationale and methodology of scientific inquiry.
- The behavioral science program also takes the successful principles of psychology, sociology, and counseling and gives them a God-centered application. Students will learn to assist people in finding God’s vision for their lives and learn to live accordingly.
- Major courses are geared toward preparation for graduate school. The content areas in behavioral science reflect those typically required by graduate programs. The variety of courses offered provides students with a broad perspective on human behavior and thought that may be applied across multiple workplace settings.
- As a behavioral science major you will benefit from a strong curriculum providing a sound preparation for a successful career in your field. By participating in classes you will be grounded in research established knowledge of the discipline and have hands-on internship and Christian service projects in community, church, ministry, or business settings giving you opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world problems.
Program Outcomes:
A degree in Behavioral Science from Mid-American Christian University prepares you for success in the “real world.” Many of our students continue their education at the graduate level, while many others start a career immediately upon graduation. The knowledge you acquire while studying behavioral science will help you understand the way people behave and think, useful skills for almost any job. Our graduates pursue careers not only in psychology-related fields, but also in areas involving churches and other ministry-related occupations.
