School of Music

The School of Music offers majors in worship or performance and also cooperates with the School of Teacher Education to offer the elementary/secondary vocal music education major.  Mid-America Christian University continues to provide music programs for those individuals interested in studying music at the graduate level, students who are preparing for church staff positions that guide the worship experiences for local congregations, or those who want to develop skill in performance or composition.

Students in the elementary/secondary vocal music education program find their skill and knowledge prepare them for a career in teaching music in K-12 schools.  Student musicians pursuing degree programs other than music can continue their participation and study in music through applied lessons, ensembles, and other courses in music.

Other majors allow students to build a program with a strong music core combined with an emphasis in youth, missions, Christian education, family ministries.  A multidisciplinary approach provides for a duel major in business and music.

Program Highlights:

  • MACU’s music wing houses practice rooms for piano, vocal and instrumental practices that are available for majors or students wanting to strengthen their instrumental skill.
  • The music lab includes computer/keyboard set-ups to enhance your composition skills.
  • Our auditorium seats 750 people for concerts, recitals and worship events.
  • The annual Christmas production usually includes a local concert as well as a joint concert with other choirs.
  • The latest choir tour included a five-day cruise where the choir gave a concert on board and enjoyed performing at several churches.

Program Outcomes:

With several choices of music degrees, Mid-America Christian University offers our graduates job opportunities in many fields including.  Most of our students find part-time employment by their junior year working in the music field as teachers, worship leaders, or instrumentalists at various churches.  In almost every case, music graduates seeking positions as worship leaders have several positions from which to choose.
