Specialized Ministry
The Specialized Ministries major is designed to prepare graduates to serve the Church as pastors, evangelists, missionaries, theological/ministry educators or in specialized church leadership positions as in youth, worship, Christian Education, or family life. The student can earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in Bible or Theology and Ministry. In the ministry area, the students choose two of five disciplines as their emphases. The five areas are: Christian Education, Family Life, Youth Ministry, Cross Cultural Communications, and Music. In addition to their academic credentials, the Specialized Ministries faculty brings a broad base of pastoral experiences to the classroom. In addition to providing the students with the opportunity to develop skills for ministry, the Specialized Ministry degree offers excellent preparation for graduate school or seminary.
Program Highlights:
- As a Specialized Ministries graduate you will be placed in your chosen field of study. Students seeking ministry positions are assisted in finding such positions.
- Students have an opportunity for hands-on experiences through our Christian Service program. The student completes six semesters, at a minimum of 15 hours per semester, during their college career. Through Christian Service the student also has an opportunity to experience a mentoring relationship with professionals in the field.
- The student can participate in internships, both nationally and internationally. These are opportunities to experience some of the day-to-day requirements of ministry and enhance one’s skills and gifts.
- Small class sizes permit individualized instruction and provide opportunity for active participation in classroom discussion.
- The flexibility of the Specialized Ministries courses gives the student a strong background in the major fields of ministry.
- A double major in Bible and Ministry is achieved through the Specialized Ministries program.
Program Outcomes:
Mid-America Christian University ministry graduates have acquired positions as pastors, associate pastors, school teachers, counselors, church and school administrators, and in other ministry fields. Students have also continued their preparation by gaining graduate training before seeking a position. Completing the Specialized Ministry major prepares graduates for entry level positions as ministers.
