Professional Counselor Track (MCC)

The Master's Program in Counseling at Mid-America Christian University is designed to provide a broad-based in-depth education in the discipline of professional counseling to prepare students for licensure as a License Professional Counselor, to instruct in professional critical thinking skills and the scientific method, to train for leadership, to orient to practical application, and to integrate knowledge of the discipline along with a Christian faith-based perspective in order to prepare students for success in the workplace and in ministry settings.

The Professional Counseling program track is designed to provide the opportunity for qualified students to complete the requirements for the degree in 40-42 months to meet the Licensed Professional Counseling requirements while maintaining full-time employment. The MCC program consists of 60 graduate credit hours. Each 3-credit hour module is scheduled one night per week for eight weeks.

The six major program outcomes:

  1. Providing broad-based and in-depth psychological knowledge and skills in counseling to empower students to function effectively professionally.
  2. Integrate knowledge of the discipline with a Christian faith-based perspective.
  3. Instruct students in the scientific method and engendering critical thinking to function effectively as a profession.
  4. Prepare student to utilize theoretical models and research finding in developing effective counseling relationships, working with culturally diverse people, measuring and evaluating various behaviors and personality traits. Learning to incorporate these abilities in developing, organizing, administering, maintaining, and evaluating various counseling services.
  5. Orient to practical application of benefiting form a strong curriculum providing a sound preparation for a successful career in this professional field.
  6. The program continually is updated based on trends in research and in the marketplace.

The program will be offered on the MACU campus and on-line. Students must achieve and overall GPA of 3.0 or be placed on academic probation. Students who receive more than 3 grades of C or lower in the MCC program, or whose GPA is less than 3.0 at the end of any two terms, are dismissed from the program. Students must complete all requirements of the degree within 5 years of entry into the program.
