MACU Hosts OK District NATS Competition
Saturday, April 6, MACU hosted the annual competition for the Oklahoma district National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
NATS is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and over twenty-five other countries.
“This is the first time that Mid-America Christian University has hosted this dynamic state-wide event," said Dr. Christian Morren, chair of the Mid-America School of Music. "It was wonderful to welcome 176 college music students, high school students, and their accompanists, as well as more than 40 music faculty members for the day. ”
During the two-round competition, students performed individually before a jury composed of professors of music. The top three winners in each category received NATS scholarships.
The finals of the competition were held in the MACU University Chapel where many of the winners from last year’s competition performed, and the winners from this year’s event were announced.
At the event’s conclusion, Dr. Mark McQuade, district governor of NATS for Oklahoma, recognized Dr. Christian Morren and the Mid-America faculty, staff, and students who helped make this year’s competition a success. McQuade also announced that Dr. Christian Morren has been named the new Oklahoma district auditions chair for next year’s NATS competition.
