Dr. Sharon Lease Named Vice Provost

Sharon Lease-PHOTODr. Sharon Lease has been promoted to the position of vice provost of Mid-America Christian University (MACU.edu).  Lease is beginning her second year at Mid-America where she has served as dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.

A highly regarded senior executive within Oklahoma higher education circles, Lease’s impressive career includes 25 years of leadership at the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation, among other appointments
and positions.

Regarding the appointment, President John Fozard said, “Dr. Lease has been very effective as dean of the MACU College of Arts and Science. This new MACU position recognizes the caliber of her leadership and the vital role she plays in maintaining our commitment to excellence as the university continues to grow and fulfill its mission.”

This past spring, the university reached a record high enrollment of 2,693 students. Since 2007, the university has grown an impressive 295%!
Provost Kathaleen Reid-Martinez states that the appointment of Vice Provost Lease will help the university stay on track with its goals in a number of areas. “The vice provost will provide executive oversight for the Center for Learning and Technology and Institutional Assessment, the University Library, the Registrar’s Office, and will also assume leadership of the university re-accreditation process.”

As most of you know, the university is currently in the midst of the Self-Study Phase of re-accreditation, a process required periodically of all accredited institutions. MACU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, Chicago, Ill., one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States.

Provost Reid-Martinez also said, “Vice Provost Lease’s impressive experience will play a significant role in the continued expansion of Mid-America Christian University programs for working adults in other states. Each state has its own regulatory policies, and the vice provost will oversee MACU compliance with each state’s policies as we move forward.”

Dr. Lease told colleagues that she was humbled by the appointment and looks forward to the expanded challenges of her new position.

“I’ve always related to Leo Tolstoy’s quote that ‘Life is a place of service.’ That is the way I’ve tried to live my life. I’m honored and delighted to do my part to help Mid-America fulfill its vision to ‘prepare students to do greater things for God and His kingdom.’ This is a very exciting time to be a part of MACU history.”

Vice Provost Lease assumed her new responsibilities as vice provost this week.

Please take a moment and send her a word of congratulation.
