The Oklahoma City Area

Oklahoma City has it all - from NBA basketball to the downtown river walk lined with restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. With over one million people calling metro Oklahoma City home, students are provided numerous choices from renowned festivals, national sporting events, treasure-filled museums, and a variety of districts highlighting arts and entertainment. In Oklahoma City, the possibilities are endless!

Located in southwest Oklahoma City, Mid-America Christian University is perfectly located less than a half mile from I-44, with quick access to all parts of town. This provides for a short drive of less than 15 minutes to Will Rogers World Airport, downtown Oklahoma City, and the nationally recognized Warren Theater.

For those who love sports, Oklahoma City is home to the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA. The newly remolded Ford Center hosts over 42 games a year, as well as numerous live concerts. Oklahoma City also plays host to the minor league Oklahoma Redhawks (baseball) and Oklahoma City Blazers (hockey), both playing in downtown Oklahoma City. If golf is your game or you just like to go for a jog, directly across the street from MACU is 36 holes of golf at Earlywine Golf Course and Earlywine Park with a 1.5 mile walking track.

With the warm climate of Oklahoma City, students with the desire to be outdoors have many options. Beautiful Lake Hefner is less than a 30 minute drive north and offers many recreational activities. If nature is an area of interest, Oklahoma City is home to the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Myriad Botanical Gardens. Oklahoma City is also home to Frontier City and White Water Bay for those who enjoy theme parks.

Some students and visitors simply want to stay indoors for their entertainment. Just a short 10 minute drive to Moore is the Warren Theater, which is a favorite among all students. This newly built theater provides state of the art sound and video and is located in the booming Moore shopping district with numerous restaurants and retail shops. For those students who love to shop, there are more than enough places to spend your money, whether it be in Moore, the Norman area or at two great malls in north Oklahoma City.

With the variety of things to do in Oklahoma City, many parents and friends love to come visit their student. There are numerous hotels located with 15 minutes of the university on I-240, Meridian Avenue, or I-35 in the Moore area. Each of these areas is safe and also offers numerous places to eat.
