MACU and Flu Season

MACU is taking precautions to deter and manage, as it may become necessary, the H1N1 virus, as well as the seasonal flu, on our campus. Please check this page regularly for updates as the situation evolves during the coming months.

Here are some of the precautions and plans we are developing to manage the flu virus on our campus. Please check regularly for updates as the situation evolves during the coming months.

MACU is using guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Department for Homeland Security regarding H1N1 and the seasonal flu. For details of these guidelines, go to http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/

Mid-America is now taking steps to reduce the possibility of people on campus contracting or spreading the virus. These include encouraging everyone to:

  • Wash hands frequently.
  • Use hand sanitizer often.
  • Go to the doctor immediately after noticing any flu-like symptoms.
  • Stop attending class or other activities after noticing any flu-like symptoms.

Mid-America has made arrangements to isolate anyone living in a dorm that is sick with flu-like symptoms or diagnosed with a type of flu. Students who live far from home will be moved temporarily to a dorm room away from other students. However, students who have family nearby are encouraged to go home if they contract the flu. Employees who exhibit flu-like symptoms or are ill are encouraged to stay home also. Anyone with flu-like symptoms is encouraged to not return to campus or social interaction until at least 24 hours after his or her fever has broken without the aid of medication.

Mid-America has state-of-the-art capabilities for conducting on-line classes. Students who are isolated will be able to work with their instructors to receive and return assignments by computer, ask questions by phone or e-mail, and continue with their studies.
