Driven by Faith, Fueled by Purpose: Morgan Cross’s Journey to MACU

Incoming student Morgan Cross is already making an impact before stepping onto campus this fall. A standout volleyball player and recent recipient of the South Oklahoma City Chamber’s Student of the Year award, Cross brings with her a strong work ethic, a passion for excellence, and a heart grounded in faith.

Cross’s journey to Mid-America Christian University began with her love for volleyball. Determined to continue playing at the collegiate level, she intentionally sought out smaller schools that aligned with her goals both athletically and personally. Her path to MACU became clear after reconnecting with a familiar face, volleyball coach Holly McKamie, who had previously coached her in club volleyball. After visiting campus, Cross knew she had found the right place. The welcoming environment and sense of community immediately stood out, and she said it felt like more than just a school; it felt like home.

Her recent recognition as Student of the Year is a testament to her dedication in every area of life. Cross has consistently invested time and energy into her academics, her sport, and her community. For her, the award represents more than an accomplishment; it’s confirmation that her hard work has purpose. She attributes much of her success to her mindset, describing herself as self-motivated and driven to give her best in everything she pursues. She believes that discipline and perseverance are key, and her story reflects that belief.

Volleyball has played a significant role in shaping who Cross is today. Through the sport, she has developed confidence and grown as a leader. These qualities are ones she is excited to bring to MACU’s volleyball program. She looks forward to being part of a team with strong chemistry and competing alongside other talented athletes who share her passion for the game.

Beyond athletics, Cross chose MACU because it aligns with her personal values and faith. She was drawn to the University’s Christ-centered environment and the sense of belonging she experienced during her visit. After spending time in prayer and seeking direction, she felt confident that MACU was where God was leading her. She plans to pursue a degree in Marketing and Accounting, combining her interests in business with her long-term goals.

Faith has been a guiding force throughout Cross’s journey. Whether in making major decisions or navigating daily challenges, she has relied on prayer and trust in God’s plan. That foundation has helped shape her perspective and continues to influence the way she approaches this next chapter.

As she prepares to begin her college experience, Cross is excited for what lies ahead. She looks forward to new beginnings, building relationships, and creating meaningful connections within the MACU community.

When asked what advice she would give to others, Cross emphasized the importance of determination and belief. “If you believe you can do something, don’t let anyone else stop you from succeeding,” she said.

With her drive, faith, and commitment to excellence, Morgan Cross is poised to make a lasting impact at MACU both on and off the court.
