Mid-America Christian University (MACU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Erica Alvarez-Stanton as the new Associate Vice President of Student Success and Retention.
Alvarez-Stanton, who joined MACU in December 2021, previously served as the Executive Director of Community Outreach and Services. In her new role, she will lead University-wide initiatives focused on academic advising, student retention, mentorship, and providing comprehensive support to ensure students thrive from orientation through graduation.
During her tenure at MACU, Alvarez-Stanton has established herself as a passionate leader and student advocate. She organized MACU’s annual Latino Youth Empowerment Conference and actively represented the University across Oklahoma City through initiatives such as the MLK Jr. Day Parade and the African-American Empowerment Conference. Her commitment to community development and student mentorship earned her recognition as a top “20 Under 40” professional by Jóvenes Emprendedores y Profesionales en OK.
“I felt such a passion to mentor students, and when you have that passion, it’s not really work,” said Alvarez-Stanton. “I know firsthand how vital it is for students—especially those from underrepresented backgrounds—to have accessible role models and strong support systems. I am deeply honored to step into this role and help our students navigate their academic journeys, realize their potential, and fulfill God’s calling on their lives.”
Raised in Brownsville, Texas, Alvarez-Stanton taught herself English during primary school before moving to Kansas for her undergraduate education. She later relocated to Oklahoma City, earned her master’s degree, and built a career across translation services, human resources, and higher education. Her background as a first-generation college graduate shapes her personal dedication to breaking down barriers for MACU students.
“Erica brings an extraordinary combination of heart, leadership, and operational vision to our student’s success,” shared President Phil Greenwald. “Her track record of empowering students and building meaningful connections makes her uniquely suited to guide our advising strategy and elevate the student experience across all programs.”
Alvarez-Stanton resides in Oklahoma City with her husband, MACU Head Baseball Coach Brett Stanton, and her daughter, Alexa.
