MACU Hosts 2026 Latino Youth Conference to Engage Future Leaders

Mid-America Christian University hosted its 2026 Latino Youth Conference, bringing together high school and college students with professionals and community leaders to explore career opportunities, build professional connections, and envision their futures as leaders.

The conference was designed to encourage students to begin thinking about potential college majors and professional careers while providing opportunities to learn from individuals working in a variety of fields. What began as an opportunity for high school students to consider life after graduation has grown to include MACU students, creating connections between young people and professionals who can help guide their next steps.

The day featured breakout sessions with Erica Alvarez-Stanton, Associate Vice President of Student Success and Retention at MACU, and Joe Cardenas, Senior Engineering Project Manager at Smith Roberts Baldischwiler, LLC. Carla Rafael Harry, owner and founder of Corazon Marketing & Consulting Co., delivered the keynote address. Students also participated in a college student panel, providing an opportunity to hear about the college experience from their peers.

One memorable outcome of this year’s conference came when a group of high school students approached the speakers to invite them to speak at an upcoming student council event at their school. The interaction demonstrated how the conference created opportunities for students to build connections that could extend beyond the day’s activities.

“My hope is that the students in attendance know that there are successful people who look like them, serving their community in leadership roles,” said Alvarez-Stanton. “In sharing stories of successes, my hope is that students felt a sense of pride and hope for their future.”

Alvarez-Stanton also emphasized the importance of students recognizing that people in their community care about their futures and are willing to invest in their success.
Hosting the Latino Youth Conference reflects MACU’s broader commitment to serving its community through educational and leadership opportunities.

“I am grateful that Mid-America Christian University hosts impactful events such as the Latino, Black, and First Americans Youth Conference and Flourish,” Alvarez-Stanton said. “These initiatives reflect our commitment in helping shape the next generation of Oklahoma leaders.”

MACU continues to create opportunities for students to explore their potential, connect with mentors, and dream bigger about what their futures can hold.
