Job Search Checklist

  • Identify the types of positions and companies that you find interesting, and identify the skills and background information needed for those roles.
  • Determine where you want to work geographically (if location is important).
  • Educate yourself on that specific industry.
  • Find at least 3 references to have whenever you apply (make sure they apply to the field or your work ethic).
  • Bring your resume to the Office of Vocation and Calling and schedule an interview prep session.
  • Create a job search plan with measurable and attainable goals.
  • Create an “elevator pitch” that describes your education and work experience, and the position you are seeking. This is concise.
  • Network with people you already know and share your “elevator pitch” with them.
  • Keep a record of the jobs you apply for, and make sure to follow up.
  • Above all, remain positive and know that an opportunity will eventually come!
