Mid-America Christian University (MACU) will host the Student Leadership Conference from 9:00 to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, September 26, on the University’s south Oklahoma City campus.
The conference, which is open to high school students, will feature multiple sessions led by leaders in the community. Speakers include Amanda Sandoval, Mayor of Bethany; Arturo Alonso, Oklahoma State Representative for House District 89; Dr. Arely Vera, OCCC Community Outreach; Dr. Andres Escobedo Amezaquita; Paulina Panduro, OKC Thunder Operations; and Erica Alvarez-Stanton, MACU Executive Director of Community Outreach and Services.
The day will begin with a welcome from MACU President Dr. Phil Greenwald, followed by panels and presentations such as Answer the Call to Serve, Call Me Doctor, Champion Mentality, and What’s Next? College 101. In addition to the speaker sessions, students will have the opportunity to participate in a voter registration drive, scholarship drawings, and door prize giveaways.
Amanda Sandoval, who made history as the first Latina elected mayor in the state of Oklahoma, says the conference provides a critical opportunity for students to envision their future.
She describes the conference as “an incredible opportunity to empower the next generation of leaders. It gives high school students a space to explore their potential, connect with mentors, and see the many paths available to them. Representation matters, and this conference reminds our youth that their voices, dreams, and contributions are essential to the future of our communities.”
Sandoval, a first-generation daughter of immigrants, has dedicated her career to public service and community advocacy. Before becoming mayor of Bethany, she served as the youngest city councilor in the city’s history and was recognized with honors such as NextGen Under 30 and the Women Lead Award. She continues to champion initiatives that promote diversity, inclusivity, and equality.
This conference reflects MACU’s commitment to empowering future leaders through education, mentorship, and community engagement.
