Business Students Collect Socks to Break World Record, Give to OKC Community

Business students at Mid-America Christian University are working together to raise money and donations to purchase and collect socks as a part of their goal to set a new Guinness World Record.

The socks will be gathered to break the “World’s Largest Sock Word” world record by spelling out “MACU” with more than 5,000 socks. The current record for the largest sock word is 1,447 socks, set in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Nov. 6, 2020.

The record-setting event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 – otherwise known as National Sock Day – in MACU’s Gaulke Activity Center, located on the southwest side of campus. Afterwards, the socks will be donated to charities, churches and shelters around the OKC metro to distribute to people in need.

The project is funded by profits generated from the business majors’ group projects as well as donations. For more information about the project or to donate money to help students purchase socks, visit https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/SockProject.
